Ushguli, with its medieval towers (World Cultural Heritage since 1996), is the highest inhabited town in Europe. In Ushguli and the surrounding area the land appears to be divided up into light and shade. At this altitude of about  2,200 m there are no longer trees, only stunted bushes, scrub and meadows. The mighty dimensions of the mountains detached us momentarily from all human and socio-political problems.
