In the beginning was hope. Hope for a better, more peaceful, innocent Germany. The name of the central organ was both programme and vision in one. In November 1989 this dream came to a conclusive end. The Neues Deutschland survived, with new Germany succumbing, becoming the “former GDR”. Now there was another dream: that of a new, reunited, better, free Germany. What happened to that dream?
