Amsterdam

In the autumn of 1989 I spent three weeks in Amsterdam at the invitation of the Cultural Exchange Foundation of the University of Amsterdam. There I photographed Dutch painters and poets. I got to know this couple at the opening of an exhibition. They reminded me of friends in East Berlin. The anarchist radio station where Ed worked had been banned a few days before. Ed was a poet. He stuck his poems up on sheets of paper in the city.

For me, the picture was an image of the sensuality of Amsterdam. After the photo shoot Ed and his girlfriend showed me an illegal marijuana plantation in the city.
