André Kirchner Berlin, Bornholmer Brücke

Berlin, Bornholmer Brücke

It was my first border crossing after the fall of the wall, from West Berlin to the legendary Prenzlauer Berg. Initially it only worked from East to West. A walk with my wife and my mother who came from Munich for the historical happening, on 5 December 1989. The photography shows the view back from the East Berlin zone to the West via the track paths. A shot, which I could not have taken a month ago, since the boundary facilities would have appeared in the picture. I had only known the ‘bad bridge’ before through the no-stop transits of the North-South commuter which through a loop touched or respectively did not touch the East Berlin circle line. Now the train stopped again as in earlier times, we could get off and walk across the long closed bridge. The photo marks the turning point for me. I had never seen the famous bridge like that before.
