Frankfurt / Oder

After the demonstration the city became quiet and people were on their way home like me too. I often took this way across this square coming from the direction of the Oder. It appeared downright harsh, almost dull because of the many squares, rectangles and long lines which one had to cross. On this day a carousel gave it a somewhat friendlier face. That I liked very much and I placed the small riding academy in the centre of my picture. Then I passed it on the right side, straight ahead and behind the trees I walked up the stairs up to the big store. That was a very special place, at which one met by chance or agreed to meet at. One could not call it beautiful and yet it had something like a soul. That was still to be felt after years, since a large part of the movie “Halbe Treppe” (by Andreas Dresen) was produced at this place, very suitably as I thought. In the meantime a lot has changed here.
