Gerhard Gäbler Altenburg . First Day at School

The photographs were taken on my youngest daughter’s first day of school in Altenburg, which was part of the district of Leipzig at that time, at the beginning of September 1989.
 Giving an expressive image to my existence under the real socialism of the time helped to escape the paralysis that came from the powerlessness of being exposed to this system for an indeterminate time. At this time I could not yet conceive that the peaceful revolution would result in an exodus from the GDR.
